Congratulations to Texas State’s Ava Kooker, whose team upset No. 6 Baylor and Nyela Calnek in a women’s soccer match Monday in Waco, Texas. Kooker and Calnek are both Team Boca alumni and former teammates.

The 3-1 victory marked the first time in program history that Texas State defeated a nationally ranked opponent.Kooker recorded the game-winning assist on Helen Alormenu’s first of two goals, while Matsuri Tsutsui got the Red Raiders on the board with a goal in the second minute. Texas State improved to 3-0, while Baylor fell to 2-1.“Beating Baylor was a huge statement for us,” Kooker said. “We came into the game confident and fresh off a win over Texas A&M.“I’m really proud of the way we competed and worked together. It was an incredible team win and one we’ll remember for a long time. Beating Baylor is a big deal, but I think the biggest takeaway is how much belief and passion this team has.
